Greenfield Cricket Club pride ourselves on our Junior section. Our success is unrivaled in the local area and envied by our local clubs; both in the numbers of children who join us each season, the numbers of children who stay with us and move into our senior teams, and our success on the field. GCC Under 11s are current County Champions and also won the GMCL cup to complete an unprecedented "double" in 2019. Indeed all our age groups have had league or local cup successes in recent seasons. Our junior players are the heart of the club, and our club principles include encouraging our youngsters to develop in the hope many will progress to adult cricket level at GCC. Many of our current senior players, including our 1st XI all started in our junior section at a young age on a Saturday morning.
Our philosophy is to ensure all the boys and girls coming to our club fall in love with cricket and enjoy learning and playing the game in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment. Many of our children progress to representative levels for Oldham District, Lancashire, and national academies. However we are firmly committed to ensuring all children enjoy coming to Greenfield and developing their skills, increasing their enjoyment of cricket and confidence.
Supported by a team of ECB trained male and female coaches, we welcome boys and girls of all age groups from the village and the wider community. We participate in the national "All Stars" programme and have squads at all levels from Under 9s to Under 17s and two girls squads. We are especially proud our our growing commitment to girls cricket and the growing number of girls joining the club every year.
Such has been our success at junior level, for 2021 the club has introduced a senior 4th XI to give our youngsters the opportunity for further development.
